It had to come. We called for it on the first VSR holding page because we were so annoyed by the ‘You Wouldn’t Steal’ DVD video notice which you can’t skip through at the front of DVDs. The Green Party and Sweden’s Rafilms have come to the rescue.

They argue that their laws are necessary to support artists, but in reality all they’re protecting is their own profits.
I Wouldn’t Steal is a pro-file sharing video, a contrario to those annoying anti-piracy DVD ads propagated by Hollywood that you can’t skip through. It’s a neat video bumper advocating fair use of content commissioned by the Greens/European Free Alliance to counter media industry claims that piracy is the same as property theft.
As such it’s a small but significant milestone bringing us closer to a more legitimate and mature case for the natural state of filesharing and download culture in the digital age.
