A Swarm of Angels is an open source movie project to create a £1M feature film and give it away to over 1 million people using the Internet and a global community of members. It has a focus on experimenting and evolving in the fields of co-creation, collaboration and community participation to create a narrative feature.
The project is funded through a subscription model, where full members can participate in votes and forum discussions to influence the creation of the movie. Wherever possible crew members will also be recruited from the community once production is greenlit. This pre-funding model allows the film to be released under a Creative Commons-license, and through a day-and-date release on all distribution channels, which an emphasis on Internet seeding and remixing.
The longer term objective of the community is to become a people-powered film studio, that redefines the relationship between filmmaker and fan.
