Seven years in the making, Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is claimed to be the most watched Finnish feature film in history. Production started in 1999. Estimated downloads are 4 million+, with the movie released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs-NonCommercial license.
“An epic film about the emperor of the world in the far reaches of the galaxy,” the first-ever Finnish science ficition production makes ample use of special effects to bolster the production values of this fan film. It was made by a core group of five Finns, with a supporting cast and crew of 300.
It is notable for reaching such a wide audience having been made with basic consumer-grade filming equipment.
